12 Sunday Must-Do’s for a Stress-Free Week

Sunday Must-Do's. A female waking up early and stretching. We like to enjoy Sunday as much as possible before the weekday starts. So, you slept in, woke up late, and scrolled on your phone until your body was too tired from lying on the bed last night. Or, if you have kids, you stay in bed until they ask for some breakfast.

Does that sound about right? You do as little as possible because you want to relax and enjoy a day off. By the time you know it, the day has gone by, and here come the Monday blues.

Let’s not do that to ourselves; we should create a routine with Sunday must-do’s.

By having a slow yet productive Sunday, we will have an excellent start for the week with less stress and less to do.

12 Sunday must-do’s for a stress-free week.

1. Wake up early

We all want to sleep in on Saturday or Sunday because we need to get up early during the week. But the last thing you want to do is sleep and wake up with your morning gone.

It is okay for us to sleep in on weekends, but occasionally. You will be surprised how much you can accomplish and still enjoy your day if you wake up early.

To be able to wake up at a decent time on Sunday, you will need to go to bed earlier on Saturday night. Waking up at a proper time on Sunday will also help you fall asleep earlier come night time.

2. Practice gratitude

If you do not practice daily gratitude, Sunday is the perfect day to do so. As soon as you wake up, be thankful for another day and think of all the blessings you have in your life.

Change how you say “I have to” to “I get to.” Changing those words will help you be more grateful for many things. I get to go to work tomorrow, not I have to go to work tomorrow. Only some have a job they can go to. Try to change that in all you do, and you will see how blessed you are.

3. Exercise

The last thing you might want to do is exercise on a Sunday. Some people wait until Monday for exercise, but why wait?

Get it out of the way and count today’s exercise as day one of your exercise for the week. You can do a 15-20-minute workout or go out for a walk.

Exercising causes your brain to release “feel-good” chemicals like endorphins and serotonin that help improve your mood.

4. Enjoy homemade breakfast

If you are in a rush all week due to work, taking kids to school, or whatever life throws at you, take the time to enjoy breakfast with your family.

Do not watch television or use your phone; be in the moment. Take the time to eat slowly and talk with your family, as you may not have the time to do that on a weekday.

5. Write a to-do list

Take a moment to review your planner or notebook, where you jot down your to-do list or appointments.

Reflect on the tasks you’ve completed and note any unfinished business from last week. This simple act of organization can provide a sense of accomplishment and prepare you mentally for the week ahead.

6. Meal prep

Meal prepping for a few days during the week saves you time and money. You only need to heat the food.

Having meal preps will also prevent you from going out to eat or eating fast food and spending money. You can also meal prep breakfast. I make egg muffins, so I spend my time on something other than making breakfast or wasting money on takeout.

7. Get outdoors

You might want to be in your pajamas all day, but changing clothes and leaving the house for a bit will make you feel good.

Get out of the house and do whatever you like. Go to the store for a few things for the week’s meal prep.

Visit a family member or a friend. If the weather permits, sit outside to enjoy some fresh air.

Getting out of the house will improve your mood and reduce feelings of stress or anger.

8. Wash your bed sheets

Washing your bed sheets can be done as soon as you wake up or return from being out. I mean, who does not love to sleep on clean sheets? When it is time to sleep, a clean scent can positively impact your mood and provide better quality sleep. This is one of my favorite Sunday must-dos.

9. Catch up on housework

Now, if you need a routine that keeps you from cleaning on Sunday, you should create one.

Here is my weekly cleaning routine to give you an idea. This routine prevents me from skipping cleaning tasks, so I only wash my sheets and towels if needed.

But sometimes life happens, and we miss something during the week. Do it today so you can start your week with a clean home. A female in a robe holding a tray with self-care items.

10. Relax/ Self-care Sunday

Amidst the hustle and bustle of the week, it’s easy to neglect self-care. But on Sundays, take the time to indulge in activities that rejuvenate you.

Whether it’s a relaxing bath, a nourishing face mask, or a DIY manicure, these moments of self-care are not just a luxury but a necessity for your well-being.

11. Schedule alone time

I don’t know about you, but I feel guilty scheduling alone time without my husband and toddler.

However, planning alone time is a great way to do what you want without distractions or tending to someone. Now, I get around three hours of alone time on Sundays, and I can tell the difference in my mood since I can do things for myself.

You should schedule at least one hour of alone time on your Sunday must-dos.

12. Nighttime routine

Having a nighttime routine will prepare you for bedtime and the following day.

Routines will differ from person to another, but they can include tidying up around the house, preparing your clothes for your morning workout, or choosing the clothes you will wear for the day.

Doing a few things before bed will give you fewer things to do in the morning.

Also, include your kid’s sleep routine, bath, book reading, and bedtime in a nighttime routine.

You can do your skincare and read a book to help you fall asleep.
